2010-2011 Departmental Food Pantry Competition

The Departmental Food Pantry Competition, sponsored by the Student Life Committee, is designed to encourage contributions to the campus Food Pantry and cooperation and community-building within departments.

Participating departments are recognized with certificates and mini-trophies. The department that collects the most food items is awarded possession of the large Giving Cup trophy for one year.

This program year, at a ceremony organized by the Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement, the Giving Cup was awarded to the Individual Studies & Liberal Arts Department. The department had collected 1,224 food items.

Running a close second- and third-place were the Mortuary Science Department (1,175 food items) and the History, Philosophy and Social Sciences Department (1,143 food items). Also participating in 2010-2011 were the Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, and Public Administration Department, the School of Business, the English, Modern Languages and English as a Second Language Department, the Teacher Preparation Department, the Cardiorespiratory and Emergency Medicine Department, and the Math and Engineering Science Department.

The nine departments collected an amazing 6,276 food items for the food pantry!

The Viking’s Cove Bookstore was also recognized for its monetary donation to the food pantry and its collection of non-perishable food items.
